Job Title Description: Balancing Technician Trainee
Pay Range: Based on experience

Job Summary:
Essentially, this position is that of technical helper.

Technical Direction Received:
Tasks are very specific and require little HVAC background or knowledge of mechanical systems. This person would need to be able to follow directions as provided by the Balancing Technician. In addition, this person must be dependable and be consistently on time for work.

Promoted From:
This is an entry level position for an individual with no formal training in HVAC or mechanical systems.

  • Balancing Technician Assistant
  • Balancing Technician

Major Duties:

  • Become familiar with the names of the balancing tools and test equipment.
  • Be able to locate tools and test equipment on the service vehicles and transport them to the testing location.
  • Carry ladders, tools and test equipment, as directed.
  • Drill traverse and static pressure test holes, as directed.
  • Observe and participate in all forms of job-site testing and balancing.
  • Provide assistance in any way to the Balancing Technician.
  • Ability and willingness to work with hands on the job-site and maintain high standards of safety.
  • Begin an approved study course of the basic Test & Balance procedures.
  • Operate a Company vehicle, as directed.

Personal Qualifications:

  • Above average mechanical aptitude.
  • Education - High School graduate; approved GED or equivalent.
  • Adequately represent the Company in appearance and speech on the job-site to other trade personnel.
  • Ability and willingness to work with hands on the job-site.
  • Ability to grasp and understand field testing procedures.
  • Willingness to learn and develop additional TAB related skills and procedures.
  • Desire and motivation to seek further knowledge about HVAC and TAB subjects through whatever means possible.
  • Ability to understand and practice safe working habits.
  • Ability to receive direction and constructive criticism from others.
  • Have a save driving record.

Job Title Description: Tab Technician III
Pay Range: Based on experience

Job Summary:
    Perform test and balance on complete mechanical systems. Know mechanical systems as well as controls and application of control systems. Capable of troubleshooting and evaluating engineering design. This person is a NEBB Certified Technician.
    Capable of performing complete TAB projects from pre-engineering, initial project inspection and start-up, through field testing and balancing (including problem documentation, Field Memos, etc.), preparation of report paperwork, proofing and editing of report and final publishing of report including system drawings.
    Routinely acts as "Crew Leader" on an assigned project, with minimal direction of a TAB Engineer or Project Manager. Responsible for vehicle, test equipment and coordinating project manpower.

Technical Direction Received:
Capable of interpreting, as well as following job plans and submittals to effect system objectives. Technical direction could be received from Project Manager and/or TAB Engineer.

Major Duties:

  • Commission mechanical systems on projects of any size.
  • May supervise and train additional balancing personnel.
  • Represent the Company to other trades, Consulting Engineers, and Owners.
  • May take off and estimate cost of balancing projects, but does not necessarily determine markup or quote projects.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing projects in an effort to bring system performance up to design criteria.
  • Review and submit final balancing reports.
  • Represent the Company on TAB Inspections with Engineers, Owners, or Naval Representatives (ROICC, LANTDIV, etc.).

Personal Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems as well as control systems and applications.
  • Ability to lead others on a formal and informal basis. This includes gaining the respect of others both within and outside the Company.
  • Ability to represent the Company as a professional. This is exhibited through actions in performing Testing and Balancing field work, safety practices, and courteous direction of other TAB personnel, and professional interface with all other Subcontractors and representatives of the General Contractor.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles as applied to system performance, i.e. fan and pump delivery, duct work, air flow.
  • Capable of accepting the responsibility for meeting deadlines and satisfying customers.
  • Exercises cooperation with others of greater and lesser positions within the Company.
  • Has maintained a history of accuracy in field measurements.
  • Has established a history of safety in all phases of performance of his/her duties as well as those under his/her direction.

Job Title Description: NEBB Certified TAB Supervisor
Pay Range: Based on experience

Job Summary:
Responsible for test and balance projects as assigned. This includes supervising the work performance and submitting completed reports for approval, and may include promoting the program, estimating and quoting projects.

Technical Direction Received:
Technical direction would be received from responsible company principals (President / Vice President) when required on complex jobs.

  • Senior TAB Technician
  • TAB Technician III
  • Project Manager

Major Duties:

  • Responsible for multiple TAB projects.
  • Remain knowledgeable in terms of engineering concepts associated with all aspects of the system.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of others.
  • Take considerable independent action and the responsibility to affect results.
  • Represent the company on high levels. This may include sales activities, signing of contracts, etc.

Personal Qualifications:

  • NEBB certification as a TAB Supervisor, in good standing with the local NEBB Chapter.
  • Broad training in the industry and unusual technical capabilities supported by understanding of engineering principles.
  • Capable of accepting the responsibility for significant assignments and working effectively under pressure.
  • Proficient in meeting deadlines and satisfying customers.
  • Capable of effectively dealing with Contractors, Engineers and Owners on both a technical and sales level.
  • Requires all TAB personnel to exercise safe working habits.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License and good driving record.
